Born in the year 1926 on 23rd January, Bal Keshav Thackeray or Balasaheb Thackeray was the founder of Shiv Sena and a right-wing political leader. One of the nine kids to Keshav Sitaram Thackeray who was a leader in Samyukta Maharashtra. Thackeray’s philosophy in life was much inspired by his father. Bal Thackeray was a Kshatriya by caste and much like his lineage he called himself a tiger and had an emblem for the same.He began his career as a Cartoonist in The Free Press Journal. He wanted to make Maharashtra a place for the Marathi speaking people. He left the Journal for his own political weekly by the name Marmik. He conducted campaigns against the Non-Marathi people. Most of his views were Anti-Muslim by nature and was also known to be a fan of Adolf Hitler. In fact, in one of his interview, he also said that replace the word Jew with Muslim in Mein Kampf and that was his whole ideology. Though, having various controversial statements he was not actually against Muslims but was Pro-Marathi and Pro-Hindu. The only thing that he had in his mind was the welfare of Marathi people. He always stood against the unemployment that hit the state because more people from outside were availing the benefits. He was beloved for the people of Maharashtra with a straightforward approach. Bal Thackeray died on 16th November 2012. On his death, he was given “Ekees topo ki Salami” which is only given when a Prime Minister or President dies. He never said he was good neither was he bad but had his own thinking and imperfections. The man never denied over anything and was a political leader with a stern voice.
