  1. Open the Paytm application on your device: The very first thing you are required to do in order to cancel the ticket that you have booked on paytm is, go to the paytm application on your device and login there through your account credentials.

  2. Go to the three horizontally parallel lines in the top left corner: Once you do that, you will reach the main home screen of the application. There you will see three horizontal parallel lines in the top right corner. Tap on the lines, a sidebar with multiple options like My Orders, My Passbook, Payment Reminders, etc., will open on your screen.

  3. Click on My Orders: From the multiple options available there, choose My Orders. Once you click on that, it will show all the orders that you have made. The orders will show under different tab categories such as shopping, deals, gifts, tickets, travel, etc. 

  4. Click on the Travel tab: Out of all the above mentioned tabs, travel is the one that you have to choose. Click on it and it will direct you to all the ticket bookings that you have made. 

  5. Click on the ticket that you wish to cancel: Once you see all of your ticket bookings, decide which one you want to cancel. Click on that and select “Cancel”.

  6. Give PNR and Telephone number that was used while booking the ticket: The next thing you have to do is provide your PNR (Passenger Name Record), the digital file that was given to you at the time of booking of the ticket. With that, also provide your telephone number. Make sure the number is the same as that you have provided during the booking process.

  7. Select the Passenger you want to cancel: After providing the above information, the application will ask you for the passenger you wish to cancel the ticket for. Select the name of the passenger. If it’s you, then select your name.

  8. Proceed for Cancellation: After selecting the passenger, a screen will appear on your device showing you the Tentative Refund Amount which is Total Amount Paid for the Traveler deducting Railway Cancellation Charges. Check the information and proceed for cancellation.

Once you click on the “Proceed for Cancellation” button you will get a pop up on your screen asking you if you really want to cancel the ticket. Click “Yes”. 

This will be followed by a confirmation message saying “Your cancellation is successful”. Press “OK” and you are done.

Rules for Ticket Cancellation by Railway

There are certain rules and guidelines that the Railway, which is the Statutory body of India runs by. While canceling the train ticket, one should keep in mind these rules so that the cancellation process is smooth and hassle-free. Here is the list of rules that you should go through before starting the process of ticket cancellation.

Service and Transaction Charges for booking the ticket

Ticket canceled within 48 hours upto 12 hours before the departure of the train

In this case the railway authority deducts 25% of the base fare + GST. This is applicable for all AC classes

Non- Refundable

Ticket canceled within less than 12 hours upto 4 hours before the departure of the train

In this case the railway authority deducts 50% of the base fare + GST. This is applicable for all AC classes

Non- Refundable

  • Once the chart is prepared, ticket cannot be canceled. If you still want to cancel it, you are suggested to file a TDR. Paytm has given us the convenience of in-app TDR filing. With this you can file TDR on paytm and get instant refunds.

  • If upto 4 hours of the scheduled departure time of the train, the ticket is not canceled or the TDR isn’t filed, there is no refund admissible on that ticket.

  • In case of RAC ticket, if the ticket is not canceled or the TDR isn’t filed upto 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train, no refund will be provided.

  • If you want to cancel a RAC/ waitlisted ticket, along with the service and transaction charges, Rs. 60 per person will be deducted as cancellation charges.

  • In case you cancel a tatkal ticket, you will not be allowed any refund on that.

Where and When will I get my refund?

Once you cancel the train ticket and the status on paytm changes to “Booking Canceled”, you can check the refund details on the booking summary page. If it shows that your money has been refunded, then you must check your bank account. Because that is where you are supposed to receive your refund. If the status shows that your refund is pending, it is advisable to wait for 24 hours.
