This week started with Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam Celebrations in India and all over the world. So, it was a week full of celebrations. A lot of things happened in the e-commerce industry as well. Here we are with the top news and updates of the week.

Last week was mostly about the growing rivalry between Flipkart, Amazon, and Jio. With all the three major companies planning to launch new services. This week we have a lot of updates, from new products launches to entertainment news and a super app that is going to launch soon. 1. Amazon Pay Launches Digital Gold

Now, Amazon customers can buy and sell digital gold at any time. Amazon Pay allows users to buy digital gold from as low as Rs. 5. Amazon Pay has partnered with SafeGold to launch 'Gold Vault' in India. 

Other digital payment platforms such as Paytm, PhonePe, and Google Pay also have digital gold offerings.  Digital Gold is available on the Amazon App. Visit Amazon Pay Page or search in the Amazon search bar.

  • Open Amazon app

  • Go to Amazon Pay page

Note: Amazon Pay balance is not available for digital gold purchase. 

 

2. Monthly UPI transaction Limit introduced by Private Banks

NPCI has decided to limit the free P2P fund transactions per month. Now, you can make 20 free person to person payments using UPI per month. Once the limit is reached additional transactions will be charged. For transactions of Rs. 1,000 or below Rs. 2.50 will be charged while for transactions higher than Rs. 1,000; users will be charged Rs. 5. 

However, merchants payments, online shopping, and bill payment transactions will continue to remain free. Only the person to person fund transfer would be chargeable. The limit has been introduced to prevent frivolous transactions. 

If you were using UPI money transfer to earn cashback then it is not good news. As with the limit, you can only do a maximum of 20 person to person transactions per month. A lot of people use UPI money transfer to earn cashback on apps such as Google Pay, Amazon Pay UPI, and PhonePe among others. 

Monthly person-to-person fund transfer limit - 20 transactions

Charges for additional P2P transfer - Rs. 2.5 for amount up to Rs. 1,000; Rs. 5 for amount above Rs. 1,000.

Gionee is making a return in the country with Gionee Max. It is an entry-level smartphone that comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The smartphone is priced at Rs. 5,999 and goes on sale via Flipkart starting August 31.

Nokia has unveiled new devices in India. Nokia 5.3 is a mid-price smartphone. It comes in two storage variants of 4GB RAM priced at Rs. 13,999 and 6GB of RAM at Rs. 15,499. The smartphone goes on sale starting 1st September. Nokia 150 and Nokia 125 are the two new budget devices of the company priced at Rs. 2,299 and Rs. 1,999 respectively. The feature phones are also already available to buyers. 

Motorola launched Moto G9 in India on 24th August. The smartphone will be sold on Flipkart starting 31st August. Moto G9 is powered by SD662 Processor. It has a 48MP triple camera setup on the back. The 5000mAh battery supports 20W fast charge. 

Xiaomi has also revealed its new budget smartphone in India. Redmi 9 is priced at Rs. 8,999. The smartphone goes on starting 31st August. Meanwhile, Samsung M51 has surfaced online. The latest smartphone in the popular M-series will launch soon in India. Next week, we will bring more details on Samsung M51. 

4. Jio Launches New Cricket Plans For IPL 2020

Reliance Jio has launched two new plans to help users stream IPL 2020. The plans come with free Disney+ Hotstar membership worth Rs. 399. Jio cricket plans are available for Rs. 499 and Rs. 777. The Rs. 499 plan provides 1.5GB data for 56 days. There are no voice and SMS benefits. While the Rs. 777 comes with 1.5GB data for 84 days. 5. Mirzapur 2 Release date announced by Amazon Prime Video

Amazon prime video has finally revealed the release date for Mirzapur Season 2. The much-awaited web series premiers on 23rd October 2020. 6. Tata Group to Launch a Super App Soon

Tata Group is also in the news this week. The Group is working on a super app to offer an omnichannel experience to users. Tata Group is India's largest business conglomerates.

It will be a super app with a lot of apps and offerings spannings categories in which Tatas have a presence. The app will include services such as healthcare, food, grocery, insurance, and financial services among others. Jio, Amazon, and Flipkart are already trying the super app game in India.
