The last week was special as we celebrated our 74th Independence day. The online offers on Independence day did add an extra zing to the celebrations. There are lots of things happening in the e-commerce industry from new service launches to acquisitions. 

Last week Amazon made an entry in the e-pharmacy industry. Now, Mukesh Ambani is on a shopping spree, as the billionaire wants to invest in some startups in its fight against Amazon. Amazon and Jio are getting ready for an epic fight. Flipkart is also joining the battle as the company is also in talks to launch an e-pharmacy business. 

There are some interesting product launches lined up for the week as well starting with Redmi 9 launch in India. IPL is also in the news as the preparations for the tournament have kick-started. Let us take a look at the top headlines of the week. 

 

1. Jio to Launch Online Pharmacy and More ventures soon

Mukesh Ambani is looking to expand RIL's product offerings by acquiring local online retailers. Reliance Retail has acquired a majority stake in Netmeds for approximately Rs. 620 crore. The deal comes days after Amazon launched its online drug sales service in India. Reliance is also eying to purchase a stake in Urban Ladder, Milkbasket, and Zivame among others. 

With the acquisition of majority stake in Netmeds, Jio may soon launch online medicine delivery via JioMart. The company is also expected to expand JioMart further with new products and services.

2. Flipkart to Start Liquor delivery

Soon customers will be able to access HipBar's application on Flipkart. Customer can place orders via Flipkart which HipBar will then deliver. Flipkart liquor delivery service will be available in West Bengal and Orissa. 

Back in June, Amazon started delivering alcohol in West Bengal. Swiggy and Zomato are also delivering alcohol in a number of cities. 

3. Flipkart in talks for e-pharmacy biz

As the demand for online medicine delivery remains strong, Flipkart is all set to enter the e-pharmacy space. Flipkart may partner with PharmEasy to launch its online medical store. 

If the deal is finalized, customers can soon order medicines from Flipkart. 

4. Jio Phone UPI Payment Rollout

If you are a Jio Phone user, then you can transfer money using UPI soon. The feature is already available for select users. Jio Pay app has been made available for feature phone users of the company with a list of features such as Tap & Pay, Send Money, Recharge, and accounts. 

5. Dream11 Pockets IPL 2020 Sponsorship Deal

Fantasy Cricket platform Dream11 has won the IPL 2020 sponsorship bid. BCCI was looking for a new title sponsor for IPL after VIVO suspended the contract for this year. IPL 2020 will be played in UAE. The tournament is all set to start on 19th September. BCCI has released a new logo for IPL 2020. A picture of the new logo was shared on Instagram with the hashtag '#Dream11IPL'

Xiaomi is all set to release its new budget device in India on 27th August. Xiaomi and Amazon have teased a new device coming to India. 

Meanwhile, Realme C12 was recently launched in India, the smartphone goes on sale on 24th August. Motorola has also teased the launch of a new smartphone in India. The smartphone is likely to be Motorola E7 plus.
