Gully Boy Movie Review

Gully Boy is a story about a young man named “Murad” who has a knack for writing poetry. Although much of his work talks about his life, his circumstances, and writing, by all means, is the way of redeeming himself from the daily trauma his life gets him.

He is highly influenced by the rap culture and much of his writing transcends to it. Although, unlike any Tom, Dick, and Harry, he has some genuine talent in him. The story is about how he garners attends and becomes the rapper, he is destined to be.

The movie has a bit of eerieness at times but always hits you like a fresh. The cinematography is breath-taking and improves the overall experience as a moviegoer. The movie features some of the most well-written raps and performed by the various indie artist.

Also, it could be hard to believe that a man who played Khilji is rapping onscreen and that too with such authenticity. Yes, much like the other rappers who just mimics the lyrics onscreen, Ranvir Singh came up with his own flow and oh boy !!! This man is a bag full of talent who never fails to impress. Also, I would like to add that the songs used in the movie are timeless just like the songs from Rock On !!!

Talking about the screenplay, direction, and specifically the writing, Gully Boy is a true example of how to make mainstream commercial cinema which makes sense. This movie is an ode to all the hip-hop lovers and people might have anything for it but I feel the movie has an international appeal(basically relatable to all hip-hop lovers around the globe).

The screenplay never bores you and the writing is excellent. If you look on the surface, it seems like a normal rag to riches story but takes a deeper dive and start seeing layers. Almost each of the characters written for the movie has got dimensions and have been beautifully portrayed by the star cast.

Alia Bhatt literally kills with her character in the movie while performances by Vijay Raaz captivates you like anything. Also, much appreciation for Vijay Verma, I find him the best character in the movie after Ranveer and Alia. Kalki plays a brief role which has been played with utter genuinely although the star of the show is someone else.

Yes, I am talking about MC Sher played by Siddhant Chaturvedi, this man is bound to cover great miles with success. He is a natural actor and perfectly fits his role in the movie. Overall, in the end, I would say that if you still haven’t checked out the movie then now is your time.
