About Battle of Saragarhi

There are many battle which are mentioned in our textbooks but some are forgotten somewhere in the History. One of such Battle was the Battle of Saragarhi. The Battle of Saragarhi makes the Top 8 battles fought by the UNESCO. It is a great example of Human Will, Honor, and Bravery. The battle was fought between 21 Sikh Soldiers and 10000 Afghans in 1897.

As we all know that Britishers were keen on increasing their empire and that is the reason they constantly attacked Afghanistan. This resulted in 10000 Afghan invaders deciding on avenging themselves by invading India. Saragarhi was an important communication post for Britishers situated in between the two forts: Fort Lockhart and Fort Gulistan. The Sikh regiment asked for the army but it wasn’t possible to send an Army in this small time. The Sikh Regiment stood their ground and decided on fighting till the death. By the end of this Battle, the Afghans admitted that they lost around 180 men in the fight but the actual body count which was found in the ruins was around 600. It is a great battle of Human struggle and standing against the odds howsoever opposite the circumstances may be.
