Initially, the role of Madhuri Dixit was being done by Sridevi although after her sudden death Madhuri landed the role. Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit will be working together after 21 years. Karan Johar even thought of stopping the movie after the death of Sridevi although later continued with the project. This will be the first time Madhuri will be working for Dharma Production. The costume design for the movie has been done by Manish Malhotra. Earlier the movie was titled Shiddat although the title changed to Kalank later during the process.
