The National Sports day held on 29 August 2020. The National Sports Day 2020 is celebrated on the birth anniversary of our Hockey legend Major Dyan Chand. This year’s National Sports Day, The President Ram Nath Kovind will confer the top sporting accolades to 65 of 74 awards in the very first virtual ceremony of it. The National Sports ceremony will start at 11 AM on 29 August where the President of Indian will present the awards to the winners. The famous cricketer Rohit Sharma and our Gold medalist wrestler Vinesh Phogat will not be able to join this year’s virtual ceremony.

 As Vinesh Phogat tested positive for COVID 19 and the vice-captain of our Indian team is in Dubai with his Mumbai Indian squad to take part in the thirteenth edition of IPL.


The Ministry of sports announced that Rani Rampal, Vinesh Phogat, Rohit Sharma, Manika Batra, and Mariyappan Thangavelu as five Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna winners and 27 other sportspeople for the Arjuna Award.

Major Dyan Chand Singh is a popular known Indian Hockey player who was born on 29 August 1905 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. He is one of the pioneer players in the field of Hockey by having more than 400 international goals and 1000+ goals in his entire career of 22 years.  He is the greatest hockey player in India ever.

Indian Hockey team achieved many victories under the leadership of him, and his leadership led India into 3 Olympic medals in 1928, 1932 and 1936.
