History Behind Hoegaarden Beer
The history behind the Hoegaarden beer is as interesting as its name. Imagine some monks brewing a beer; how does that sound? Well, the monks of Hoegaarden were the first to discover the unique recipe for this beer in 1445. Sources tell us that the initial wheat beers used to be incredibly sour. The Hoegaarden monks started experimenting with orange peels and coriander, and thus, the birth of Hoegaarden beer took place. The beer became extremely popular among alcohol lovers. However, due to many social and political changes happening all around the world, the last brewery of Hoegaarden closed in 1957.
But the story of this incredible beer doesn’t end here. In 1965, when the wish to revive Hoegaarden beer spread among the people, a milkman named Pierre Celis, who had grown up near the brewery and sometimes even helped in the making, took matters into his own hands. When the demand for Hoegaarden beer increased, several brewers came forward to assist Pierre, and later, he expanded the brewery.
In the present time, Hoegaarden beer is produced and marketed by Anheuser-Busch InBev, a Belgian-Brazilian liquor company. But even today, 9 out of 10 beers are produced in Hoegaarden, and the taste is appreciated in different parts of the world, including Europe, North America, Singapore, China, and Australia.
