Ayurveda is an ancient science that is estimated to have originated even before the Indus Valley Civilization. Some archaeological guesstimates have slated its origins to be more than 5000 or even 20,000 years old. Despite its age, modern-science reserves a respectable mention for Ayurveda. Today, more than “the science of life”, it has acquired a respectable mention as “the science of daily living”. Originated in the Atharva Vedas, Ayurveda was an Upa Veda of this primary text, which means it was an addition to Atharva Veda. Some mentions of Ayurveda can also be found in the Rig Veda, the most ancient of the four Vedas—Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva. A combination of two Sanskrit words—“ayu” meaning life or lifespan, and “veda” meaning knowledge, Ayurveda sums up the entire gamut of ancient medicinal practice that originated in the Indian subcontinent. It is also believed that Ayurvedic science was developed by experimentations of the sages on their own, and on their disciples’ bodies. For thousands of years this ancient knowledge was transmitted orally between generations, due to which the exact date of the birth of Ayurveda remains a mystery. Indus Valley Cosmeceuticals endeavours to take inspiration from India’s glorious medicinal legacy, and offers an exceptional array of organically natural and DAMAGE-FREE beauty products that suit all skin tones.
