What would happen if you happen to stumble upon everything at just 1 rupee or .01GBP to be precise. This actually happened on ecommerce giant Amazon in UK on Friday. Suddenly the visitors found an unprecedented price tags on every item, .01GBP! Yes, it happened and the things literally became "FreeKaaMaal" for an hour.
It was a technical glitch and lasted for an Hour (between 7pm and 8pm on Friday). It was like a Santa online for shopper but acted like a Grinch for the sellers.
In response, a Facebook group has been created, which demands the compensation from RepricerExpress ( The RepricerExpress software automatically reprises items of stock if a cheaper version becomes available elsewhere online and is designed to keep businesses competitive).
The error was technical but it have effected a lot of shoppers. Some of them have been erased out of their savings.
RepricerExpress's CEO Brendan Doherty said
"I am truly sorry for the distress this has caused our customers. We have received communication that Amazon will not penalise sellers for this error, we are continuing to work to identify how this problem occurred and to put measures in place to ensure that it does not happen again".
Amazon in response has stated that they have canceled a vast majority of orders under the price glitch.
Anyways, the error was just for 1 hour and was quickly recovered and restored to normal functionality. However this 1 hour has caused a lot more than loss of a lifetime saving, it has created a loss of trust. We look forward for Amazon to reimburse the money back to the sellers. Shopping smartly is good, but shopping smartly at worth of pain of a small seller is not good.
