Google or Facebook are heavily used for marketing various products and brands, most of them being of ecommerce companies. Hence keeping this in light, Facebook has planned earlier that it will introduce a new feature which would allow Facebook users to shop on their favorite shopping site without leaving Facebook. It will be soon tested and is expected to release initially on its app.

Why mobile app?

The reason of planting this amazing option only on app is not due to the large number of users, but it is due to the three-quarters of the total revenue which Facebook drives from mobile. Another reason being the fact that largest number of online shoppers are from mobile.

According to an online post, the leading social networking site said : “On Facebook, we’ve seen that people are coming to our platform not only to connect with friends and family but also with products and brands, We want to build native experiences that make it easier for both people to discover products on mobile and businesses to drive more sales.”

The social networking giant is planning to test this new feature in coming weeks. According to the new feature, the users can “discover, share and purchase” products which they love.

How would it happen?

We have estimated the process like this – The sale on Facebook would happen in a smart way. An etailer will upload the description of product and a buy button on its Facebook page. Once the customer click on ‘Buy’ button, a name, address etc. details form would appear and a payment gateway will pop up and customers can make the purchase on it. All the transaction will go to seller but a part of it as commission would go to Facebook. The delivery and other purchase related after-sale services would be handled by the etailer itself. It is a nice move indeed where a customer will get out of haze of drifting across app and tabs and Facebook will get revenue from ads and online transaction (maybe).

Snapdeal is not selling just apparels, electronics etc. online, but, it is has now stepped into two wheelers. Yes, Snapdeal earlier was in talks with Hero Moto Corp which paved the way for online presence of two-wheelers of Hero Moto Corp.

According to the sales reports generated by Snapdeal.com, there are nearly 700 bikes which were sold in less than 70 hours. The record also shows that during the peak of the sale, Snapdeal was selling almost one bike per minute. Hero Moto Corp understood the power and reach of online retailing and entered into the battle with no one to compete with in the category as it was first of its own type in the category.

Tony Navin, Senior Vice President, Snapdeal said,

Actually this is not the first time any vehicle manufacturing company has entered into the ecommerce industry as Mahindra allowed buyers to prebook a Scorpio on eBay India, (now on Snapdeal too) but book, not buy. The models sold as part of the Hero launch offer on Snapdeal include the Splendor, Xtreme, Centuro, Optima, Passion, Glamour, Ignitor, Hunk, and the Pleasure scooter. 

Anyways, we as Indians have a cling in our mind that "test drive to banta hai" (test drive has to be there) which is a reflection of good sense of shopping we have. It is a great initiative by Hero as if a customer has made a decision of purchasing a bike, he/she will do it without thinking much. Hero is also giving all benefit like warranty and after-sales service, just like its offline buyers get.

It was a technical glitch and lasted for an Hour (between 7pm and 8pm on Friday). It was like a Santa online for shopper but acted like a Grinch for the sellers.

In response, a Facebook group has been created, which demands the compensation from RepricerExpress ( The RepricerExpress software automatically reprises items of stock if a cheaper version becomes available elsewhere online and is designed to keep businesses competitive).

The error was technical but it have effected a lot of shoppers. Some of them have been erased out of their savings. 

RepricerExpress's CEO Brendan Doherty said

"I am truly sorry for the distress this has caused our customers. We have received communication that Amazon will not penalise sellers for this error, we are continuing to work to identify how this problem occurred and to put measures in place to ensure that it does not happen again".

Amazon in response has stated that they have canceled a vast majority of orders under the price glitch.

Anyways, the error was just for 1 hour and was quickly recovered and restored to normal functionality. However this 1 hour has caused a lot more than loss of a lifetime saving, it has created a loss of trust. We look forward for Amazon to reimburse the money back to the sellers. Shopping smartly is good, but shopping smartly at worth of pain of a small seller is not good.
