Indian Chess Prodigy ‘Pragg’ Made History
India’s prominent chess player Rameshbabu Pragganandhaa ‘Pragg’ bagged 2nd position in the World Championship after a nail-biting match with Magnus Carlsen (current world’s no.1).
Pragg was born on 12 August 2005 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. His father works as a branch manager at TNSC Bank, and his mother is a homemaker who often accompanies him to championships.
Very few people know he is the younger brother of Women Grandmaster and International Master, R Vaishali.
He is the second chess player in the ‘history of India’ to reach the finals of the World Championship, after Vishwanathan Anand.
Pragg has played chess since age 10 and won the Under-10 title in 2015.
He became the youngest ‘International Master’ in history, at the age of 10 years, 10 months and 19 days.
Pragg is the 5th youngest Chess player ever to achieve the title of Grandmaster in 2018.
On 24 August 2023, Pragg became the ‘youngest player’ to reach the World Chess Championship finals. He ranked second after giving fierce competition to the current champion.
But for us, Rameshbabu Pragganandhaa remains the winner, and India is incredibly proud of him.
