Dr Ritu Karidhal Shrivastava is known as the ‘Rocket Woman’ of India due to her significant contribution to ISRO’s missions, including Chadrayaan 3.

Birth

Ritu Karidhal was born on 13 April 1975 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. She lives with a sweet family of a husband and two children.

Joining ISRO

In 1997, Karidhal joined ISRO with a degree in Physics from Lucknow University.

Master’s From IISc

In 1999, she completed her master’s in Aerospace Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

Mangalyaan

Dr Ritu Karidhal Shrivastava was the ‘Deputy Operations Director’ of Mission Mangalyaan or Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM).

Chandrayaan 2

Karidhal supervised the mission Chandrayaan 2 as its ‘Mission Director’.

Young Scientist Award

In 2007, she received the ISRO’s ‘Young Scientist Award’ from APJ Abdul Kalam (then Prime Minister).
