Flavourful Red Garlic Chutney or ‘Poondu’ for Idli & Dosa

Step 1

Soak dry red chillies in hot water in a bowl. Set aside for 10 minutes.

Step 2

Heat oil in a pan and roast some garlic in it.

Step 3

After a while, add some onions and saute well. Let them turn golden brown.

Step 4

Once the mixture cools, transfer it to a blender. Add a little tamarind, salt, and soaked red chillies to the blender.

Step 5

Blend it to make a smooth paste. Add some water as well if required.

Step 6

Heat some oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, urad dal, hing and curry leaves.

Step 7

Pour the red chutney paste into the pan. Cook it for a minute or two.

Step 8

Enjoy the delicious Poondu or red garlic chutney with dosa or idli.
