Homemade Dal Makhani Recipe: Creamy, Dreamy, and Utterly Satisfying

1 Cup Whole Black Urad Dal, 1/4 Cup Rajma, 3 Cups Water, 3 tbsp Ghee, 3 tbsp Butter, 1 Bay Leaf, 1 Cinnamon Stick, 3 tbsp Plain Yogurt, etc.

Step 1

First off, rinse and soak Black Urad dal + Rajma for 8-10 hours. After soaking overnight, rinse the dal and pressure cook it in 3 cups of water.

Step 2

Start separating water from Pressure cooked Daal if extra and mash the Pressure cooked Dal. Add 1 Butter and Ghee on a medium flame.

Step 3

Add a few ingredients: bay leaf, cinnamon stick, whole dry red chili, cumin seeds, onions and saute until nice and translucent. Don’t forget to add Ginger-garlic green chili paste.

Step 4

Now, add whisked plain yogurt and tomato puree and let it cook. After this, add red chili powder and Garam Masala.

Step 5

Add Mashed dal when butter + Ghee starts separating. Mix it properly before adding boiled dal water. Cook it on low flame for 60 mins. Now, add kasuri methi.
