Mobile recharge online is secure?
Human beings have taken a huge leap in terms of evolution, within a few million years
the same species that used stone made tools to hunt and survive now
flies rocket planes in order to explore the universe. This drastic
change is the result of our achievements in the fields of science and
technology; however, technology is both a boon and a bane. It would not
be too farfetched to claim that with evolving technologies we have given
rise to many new dangers resulting in losing our peace of mind.

For instance, we do not live an active life anymore and instead, we
spend hours sitting in front of our PCs and laptops; this has resulted
in many diseases which were not common
with our forefathers. In the same way, when we use the internet we are
at a constant threat from hackers and other ill intentioned people with
technical knowledge who are out there trying to steal our valuable
personal information.

With the help of this information they can cause a lot of damage to us like affect our credit score, steal money from our bank accounts
or worse still, they could use it for ‘identity theft’. Thus we have to
be careful in our day to day activities like making online payments or
recharging mobile phones through net banking or credit cards.
Secure mobile recharge:

As we use our mobile phones all the time, we need to recharge them quite often. The most common form of mobile recharge these days is online mobile recharge through credit cards or net banking and we have to be very cautious to make sure that we are dealing only with secure and legitimate businesses or websites.

Here are some useful tips:

1) Always make sure that the website you are using for online
recharges in not a fraud site. This can be checked by searching on
Google about any report of ‘scam’ or fraud report against them.

2) When using a payment gateway to enter credit card or bank account information always check the URL of the website, i.e. check the address bar on the top of the page, and make sure that it starts with “https” which signifies secured service.

3) Read the URL to see that it is of your bank and not anything else. For example, if you bank with XYZ bank, the website URL should have XYZ in it. Remember, it is better being safe than being sorry.

How to recharge mobile online (prepaid recharge methods)
Banking in India has seen a rapid modernization since the early 90s when the country’s economic policies were changed allowing increased foreign investment. The policy change encouraged foreign banks to enter the Indian Banking Sector; they came along with their modern and innovative facilities including various new technologies available in the developed world. The Indian consumers easily adapted to them and in fact, were pleased by the ease of banking that these technologies provided them.

Thus, the Indian banks also had to change their approach to retain their customer base and so they also modernized their financial system. With this change, came the introduction of the credit card in the financial sector. Almost all the national banks started offering credit cards to the elite class as well as the upper and lower middle class people of the Indian society who, with their new found economic prosperity, were ready to spend for a better standard of life.

Thus, credit cards became very popular with many people using them. Now, credit cards are used for all sorts of monetary transactions and are widely accepted everywhere, starting from buying goods in a supermarket to paying college fees. Among the many facilities that credit card provides, prepaid mobile recharge is worth mentioning.

Recharging through credit card:

Credit cards can be used in multiple ways to recharge mobile phones:

1) Over the phone: Many mobile operators allow recharging prepaid mobile phones by dialing a given number, which is of the IVR of the operator; there people can provide their credit card details like name as mentioned on the card, the card number and the CVV number present at the back of the card. The IVR then validates the information by contacting the credit card provider bank. Once it’s verified, the amount of the mobile recharge is then charged to the card and the person gets the talk time instantly. It is a secured service; however it is not very popular with the people as yet.

2) External websites: Websites providing online recharge services widely accept credit cards for payment purposes. Apart from the card information many a times one would need to enter an online security code for the transaction to go through. This code can be generated by people themselves by visiting their card provider’s website where they will be given this option once they log in to their accounts. This code makes it very secure to use the credit card for prepaid mobile recharge online.

Recharging through Debit Card

Indians got the first taste of a modern banking mechanism when The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) installed the first ever ATM in Mumbai in the year 1987; after that all other banks followed suite and one by one all public and private, national and international banks installed ATMs at prime location for people to use. At first, people were provided with ATM cards which could only be used at these ATMs for the purpose of withdrawing cash; these cards could not be swiped at any merchant machines or used online.

With the demand of the consumer and with advancement in technology the concept of debit cards came into existence in India. Banks started offering ATM cum Debit Cards to the customers. These Debit Cards could not only be used to withdraw cash from ATMs, they could also be used to pay for groceries, restaurant bills, utility bills etc. Almost every merchant these days accept debit card payments unlike earlier times when the only alternative to cash payment was credit card payment.

Nowadays, we can swipe our debit cards and pay for almost everything under the sun as long as we have sufficient funds or money in our bank accounts. These cards are also used for mobile and DTH recharge services.

Recharging through debit cards:

Debit cards can be used to recharge prepaid mobile phones in a few different ways:

1) At the ATM machines: Many banks in India have this special service through which people can recharge their mobile phones from the ATM machine. Customers need to first access their bank account using the debit card and the ATM pin and after that different options are provided for banking services along with prepaid mobile recharge option. After choosing that option, the next screen will ask for mobile operator’s details i.e. name of the operator and the region, the next information to provide will be the phone number and the amount of the recharge. This recharge happens immediately once the information is confirmed; the money is also deducted right away from the bank account of the customer.

2) In online recharge: Most recharge websites these days provide the option of using debit card to pay for the online recharge of your prepaid mobile connection. Customers need to provide the name on the card, the 16 digit card number and the last 3 digits on the back of their cards (CVV) for the transaction to go through.

Recharge through Net Banking

One of the signs of a developing economy is rapid changes in the banking industry. Banks in India, whether public or private, nowadays provide many facilities which are at par with what is offered in the developed economies like United States and Japan. Out of the various services provided by these banks, the internet banking service, or as it is commonly known as “net banking” is a very convenient and popular service.

Earlier, people in India had to rush to a branch with the simplest of queries or requests; they had to wait in long queues for a considerate amount of time for getting their work done. However, with the introduction of net banking many banking transactions and requests can be completed online like finding out the balances, looking at statements, transferring funds and requesting check books etc.

Thus, it is boon for consumers in this hectic world where we do not have enough time to spend travelling to a branch. Apart from these, net banking also offers other benefits like booking movie tickets online, paying for rail or air tickets, paying utility bills on the net and recharging prepaid mobile phones, DTH services etc.

Recharge through net banking:

Prepaid mobile recharge through net banking is an easy and secure procedure through which cell phones can be recharged instantly. There are two ways through which this can be done:

1) Through external sites: this service has been there for quite sometimes; certain 3rd party websites provide the facility of recharging mobile phones online and these websites also provide multiple payment options including net banking. Earlier only credit cards and in some exceptional cases debit cards could be used to make the payment however, nowadays all of them invariably offer net banking as one of the options as, if they do not do so, they will lose out to their competitors who do provide this service. We can recharge for most of the major mobile operators in India through this service and so it of great convenience.

2) Through websites of banks: Most banks in India provide this service which has recently been introduced. When we log in to our net banking accounts in the bank’s website, we get an option which will take us to a mobile recharge gateway; there we can choose the location, phone number, mobile operator and the amount of recharge. Once we confirm this information the recharge is completed instantly and the amount is deducted from our bank account.
